The high motte was erected east of the Clonard river, it is surrounded by Norman fortifications and flanked by a bailey. It stands at 50 feet high with a circumference measuring 432 feet and crowned with a lime tree which was planted in the 19th century. Today the motte is well known as a landmark in the area.
