Description

The Fastnet Bar is a welcoming bar/restaurant in the heart of the picturesque village of Goleen, on the route of the wild Atlantic way, named after the famous lighthouse. It is a gateway to the Mizen Head signal station which is a one of Ireland’s largest attractions, also close by is Barleycove beach one of the finest blue flag, sandy beaches in West Cork.

The current owners Martin and Bridget Whooley have had the business, for almost 20 years, would now like to turn a new chapter in their lives and would like to sell the business as a going concern.

The property is on two levels, ground floor comprises of a bar and lounge, kitchen and toilets. Added features include a stove and open log fire. To the rear of the building there is a secluded beer garden, which has been kitted out to offer additional seating for an outdoor experience. There is a keg room and separate bottle store.

The 1st floor contains an apartment with 2 double bedrooms, one single, a small kitchen, bathroom and living room. This apartment has separate access via the rear of the building.

The building itself dates back over 100 years and was originally called Sean McCarthy’s where back in the day you could enjoy a pint as well as buying a suit of clothing or even a pair of wellington boots. The 100 year old floor is from Cobh Cathedral so a drink will be enjoyed on ‘Holy Ground’

The current owners have built a good reputation for bar food, served up to 6pm (June to September). There is potential to expand this offering later into the evening, especially during the peak season when demand is high.

The Fastnet has been renowned for it’s live music sessions over the years and has attracted many musicians, especially during the summer months. It is well known for hosting many family occasions from weddings, birthday parties, funerals to large fundraising events for well know charities as well as local causes.

Whilst the Goleen village has retained it’s charm, a lot of development and expansion is taking place in the local area. There are a number of housing developments attracting both seasonal and full time residents. There is also the expansion of Goleen Harbour Eco accommodation which is proving popular.

Overall the Fastnet bar offers a lifestyle change along with a opportunity to integrate into one of West Corks most welcoming communities.
